TransAm Trucking, a leading refrigerated long-haul trucking company serving the Midwest, East Coast, and Southern California, was founded in 1987 by John Jacobson, Jr. and his wife, Trudy. TransAm operates from a 40-acre site in Olathe, KS, which is home to its corporate office. This complex, near I-35 and Highway 169 outside of Kansas City, has 17 acres of heavy duty concrete staging and parking area plus a state-of-the-art maintenance shop and 25,000-square-foot office building. TransAm also has a terminal in Rockwall, TX, which includes an office building with a driver’s center as well as a maintenance shop that performs the same services as the Olathe shop.

All newly hired drivers attend a three-day paid orientation program when they start work. TransAm hires experienced OTR drivers and recent graduates of certified truck driving schools. After orientation, TransAm’s Training and Development department takes great care matching student drivers with a coach based on common factors. Student drivers then complete a finishing program that includes 160 hours on the road, 24 classroom hours and personalized backing instruction. Once a student driver graduates from the program, they are assigned top-of-the-line equipment featuring automatic transmissions, mobile communications system, big HP engines with cruise control and Jake Brakes, air-operated fifth wheel latch, and air-assisted tandem pin pullers. All tractors are two-bunk condos with deluxe interiors and all trucks are equipped with a generator for driver convenience and comfort.
